Lesson 76: Solomon
David was getting old so he made his son Solomon king over Israel. Solomon became a very wise king. Solomon wrote many wise sayings which are written in our Bible. Solomon knew all about music, birds, flowers, the stars and all the wonderful things that are on our earth.
God asked Solomon what he wanted God to give him. Solomon asked God to give him wisdom and understanding so he could be a good king and a good judge for the people. In this, Solomon showed that he was not selfish when he asked God to give him wisdom. God was pleased with Solomon's request for wisdom and understanding (1 Kings 3:9-14). So much so, that God also gave him riches and honor. Solomon became the wisest king living.
Solomon made Jerusalem a very beautiful city and built the finest buildings. One very beautiful building Solomon built was the Temple in Jerusalem. The temple was made from very precious stones and the wood they used was covered with fine gold.
Many people came to see these lovely buildings and to see Solomon and to hear of his wisdom. The Queen of Sheba came to visit Solomon and she was very surprised to find such riches and to see how happy Solomon's servants were.
There is one lesson we should learn from Solomon. While Solomon served God and tried to obey God, God blessed him. But later in Solomon's life, he became weaker and began to forget God. Then his kingdom became weaker and was never again as rich and strong as it was as when he served God faithfully.
