Lesson 23: Jesus Raises Jairus' Daughter
In the previous lesson we learned how Jesus, by just speaking a word, made the sick man well. It was a wonderful thing to be able to make him walk again. Now this time Jesus performed a miracle even more wonderful than healing the paralysed man. Jesus was able to bring to life again someone who had died. This was a wonderful thing. Let us listen carefully while we learn about this miracle.
A man named named Jairus came to Jesus and told him that his little girl was very ill. He said, "She will die because she is so ill." Jairus had great faith in Jesus for he said to Jesus, "If only you will come to my little girl I know you can make her better." Jesus listened very carefully to Jairus and went with him to his house. While they were on the way, some people came to Jairus from his home and told him that his little girl already had died. They told Jairus not to bother the Master (Jesus). They didn't think that Jesus could do any good now because the girl had already died. Jesus heard the men tell Jairus this so Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid, only to have faith and believe in Him. (Mark 5:36)
When they came to Jairus' house everyone there was weeping. They were sad because the little girl had died. Jesus told them not to weep and cry. Jesus said the little girl was only asleep. Jesus meant that death is only a sleep, and Jesus was going to awaken her. But the people did not believe that Jesus could do this. Jesus took the little girl's father and mother and three disciples (Peter, James and John), and they went into the little girl's room. All Jesus had to do was to say to the little girl, "Little girl, I say unto thee arise." The girl awakened, and she was well, and not even a little sick. The girl was hungry so Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
We must have faith and believe in Jesus like Jairus did. Jesus has promised that he will come to the earth again and set up his wonderful Kingdom. If we should be asleep or dead when Jesus comes he will awaken us, too, by his great power. If we are faithful and have followed his commandments we will be able to go into his wonderful Kingdom.
