Lesson 21: Prayer
Jesus teaches us that we must always pray. Why must we pray? Because we know that we need God's help every day. When we are young, we all go to our fathers and mothers for help. Often our fathers and mothers have to protect us and guide us and show us the right things to do. We have to go to God in the same way as we go to our fathers and mothers for help (Matthew 6:5-15). God will help us if we pray to Him and ask Him to help us.
If we pray each day and ask God to help us, then as we grow older, we will not do so much wrong. When we pray we must really be sorry for any of the wrong things that we have done. If we are sorry, God will forgive us. When we are forgiven, it makes us feel stronger and happier. Then we try harder to do what is pleasing to God.
Jesus also teaches us that we must forgive others. If anyone hurts or does something wrong to us and if that person says that they are sorry, we must forgive them, too. If people forget to say they are sorry...must we forgive them? YES,we must forgive everyone. If we love everyone, then it makes it easier to forgive them. We must try always to be kind and loving to everyone because that is how God wishes us to act.
Jesus told his disciples that they could not get into the Kingdom of God unless they became as little children. Jesus meant that they had to be trusting like children. They had to be humble, and not proud. They had to be contented or happy and not complaining. They had to be forgiving and so must we. If we want God to forgive us, we must forgive others.
