Lesson 3: Adam and Eve Sent Out of the Garden
The first man and woman made by God were named Adam and Eve. God put Adam and Eve in a lovely garden with flowers and plants. Everything grew very easily for them. However, God told Adam and Eve that they could eat everything they wished, except, they could not eat from one tree that was in the middle of the garden. God said if they ate of that tree, they would surely die.
Adam and Eve were very happy. But, one day, Eve talked with a serpent in the garden. The serpent told Eve that she could eat from the tree in the middle of the garden. The serpent said that they would not die if they ate from the tree in the middle of the garden. Eve was very foolish and she took of this tree and ate of the fruit. She also gave some to Adam and he ate of the tree, also. Do you think God was pleased with them? No, God was very angry. God had been so good to them and they had disobeyed God.
Adam and Eve were sent out of the lovely garden. (Genesis 3:22-24) Then, all their lives they had to work for a living. That is, they had to dig the ground or till the ground and work very hard to get enough to eat. Also, Adam and Eve were told that they would die and return to the dust of the ground. They could not have everlasting life like the angels have.
We, too, have mortal or dying life like the man and woman in the garden, Adam and Eve. But, God has promised that if we try to obey Him, He will give us everlasting life when Jesus returns to the earth. (Romans 8:11) Another way of saying this, is that we could live forever if we do as God asks us. So, we must try to obey God. When we obey God, we make Him very happy just like it makes our parents very happy when we obey them.
